Barwick insists Sven wasn't an expensive mistake

Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick has denied that Sven Goran-Eriksson was an expensive mistake.

After guiding England to a number of quarter finals but never being able to get further than that last eight, England were knocked out by Portugal this year in the World Cup finals.

The World Cup looked like England's time to shine but it simply wasn't meant to be and that left everyone disappointed, including Sven.
"In qualification terms he was 100 percent in major tournaments, but he himself would say three quarter finals would not be considered the success he would have looked for," said Barwick to BBC Radio Five Live.

"He thought this time there would be every chance of success, but it did not happen.

"An expensive mistake? I would not accept that notion, but we were all disappointed, him included."
