Last chance for Tottenham to take Wigan defender

Wigan boss Paul Jewell has given an update on the current situation with defender Pascal Chimbonda.

A new contract is currently being negotiated but nothing has been agreed to yet. Jewell insists that if the player cannot agree a new deal with the club and a club comes in with the right money then he can leave.

Tottenham are known to have made bids for Chimbonda but it's just not the type of money that Wigan are looking for.

"We've been talking to his agent over the last couple of days about a possible new deal," said Jewell to Sky Sports News.

"I don't think anything's been agreed.

"Like anybody else, if he can't agree a deal and the right offer comes in for him he can go, but until that right offer comes in he's not going.

"Tottenham know the price for Pascal and I've spoken to them numerous times over the summer.

"If they want to pay the money reluctantly I would let him go. If they don't want to pay the money delightedly he would stay."
